Description
The University of Prince Edward Island offers students an educational experience that will help them reach their potential as future leaders on PEI, across Canada, and around the world. Over its 200-year history, UPEI has grown significantly in its student population—domestic and international—and the variety of its programs.
Through experiential learning opportunities, students gain knowledge and practical experience that will help them in their professional careers. They choose from undergraduate programs in the faculties of Arts; Business; Education; Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS); Nursing; Science; Sustainable Design Engineering; and Veterinary Medicine, while the Faculty of Graduate Studies offers exceptional programs in all faculties.
UPEI continues to expand the programs it offers to meet the evolving needs of our society—from the local to the global perspective. The University is developing a new Faculty of Medicine, which will offer a joint doctor of medicine degree in partnership with the Memorial University of Newfoundland. The UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation further enhances the University’s position as a leader in this critical field.
Indigenization is a priority at UPEI as part of its journey toward Truth and Reconciliation. The IKERAS faculty focuses on teaching Indigenous knowledge, values, and ways of doing to students, positioning the University as a leading institution in the achievement of decolonization. Courses include the mandatory “Indigenous Teachings of Turtle Island,” which examines the Indigenous Peoples in Canada and how colonization sought to assimilate them. Another priority at UPEI is its research program, which continues to grow in reputation and funding. Graduate and undergraduate students learn from and work with researchers who are leaders in their fields, including several Canada Research Chairs. The student experience at UPEI is strengthened by strong learning supports, a generous scholarship program, close professor-student interaction, an increasingly diverse student population, opportunities for collaborative research, and an active varsity athletics program.
